HelpingaHero.org is a Houston based 501(c)(3) and is the 2nd largest national homebuilding organization building homes for our severely wounded heroes injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. We have awarded 51 homes in 13 states. This is the 2nd home where HelpingaHero.org has joined forces with Extreme Makeover:Home Edition to build a new home for a wounded hero.
HelpingaHero.org has awarded 4 homes in the San Antonio area, including the Harris family.
HelpingaHero.org will host a fundraiser at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio with Extreme Makeover:Home Edition on Thursday, January 19th where the goal is to raise $ 1.1 million to pay off the Harris family mortgage and award an additional ten homes as part of the EMHE Show. Since the show will air in December 2012, the theme for the event is a Winter Wonderland and the attire is Black Tie and Boots. The event will feature the Extreme Makeover Cast including Ty Pennington, Paige Hemmis, Ed Sanders, Michael Maloney and Xzibit and will include a performance by Lee Greenwood as he sings God Bless the USA and 4 former members of the Ten Tenors will sing Heres to the Heroes. A public Parade will follow on the Riverwalk honoring our wounded heroes who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.
The fundraiser is being chaired by Rep, Jose Menendez, Senator Leticia Van de Putte and Mayor Julian Castro. The Honorary Co-Chairs are Ed Whitacre and Bill Greehey. Host Committee members include Gordon Hartman of Morgans Wonderland who is serving as the builder for the Harris home.
